Tonight is the second time I’ve been to a book release event for Leigh Bardugo. The first was back in 2019 in Austin for the release of Ninth House — an excellent book.

Tonight I’m in Milwaukee at the UWM student union for the release of The Familiar, a new standalone novel.

She is clever and funny as she answers crowd questions, pulled from a bucket on stage. She talks writing process ams Grishaverse inspiration, and how Kaz Brekker pays the bills. She talks future projects and the fate of a third Six of Crows and how after the horror novella she’s writing she’ll dive into the third Alex Stern book. Bless.

The line to get books signed is long, but we wait in it. We’re waiting in it now. But it’s part of the experience. The amount of book events I attend for authors I love is far and in between.

The whole afternoon has been lovely. Hanging out at the Cidery before walking over to the event this evening. There are few better ways to spend a day than with a good friend. And some good cider. And this good book! Counting my blessings while I wait out the line that stands between me and a real dinner.

With Love,

Natalie
