This evening we celebrated St. Patrick’s Eve. Tomorrow is dedicated to Shadow & Bone, and the Irish deserve their own occasion.
My friend Lin is very Irish and spearheaded the event: preparing homemade mashed potatoes poutine (gravy, cheese curds), Irish whiskey, and a playlist of Irish songs (The Wild Colonial Boy, The Wild Rover, The Cremation of Sam McGee . . . ). In short — eat potatoes and reflect on the plight of the Irish. They’re a grim bunch, really, but their songs are very catchy.
And the poutine was truly delicious. A meal for the ages. And I’m sorry to my Norwegian heritage, but I do like this much better than lutefisk.
With Love,
Natalie
