I went to the Door County Short Film Festival this afternoon — at least the block of it that had my brother’s short film, “Expiration Dates”, featured. This is the same film that got into the Wisconsin Film Festival last year — a short documentary featuring my grandparents.

The blurb: “Since the 1950s, Norval Morgan has been collecting obituaries of everybody he knows in his community. And he knows a lot of people. “Expiration Dates” is a film about how the deceased are remembered, and the people that remember them.”

I posted the film last year here — it’s worth a rewatch if it’s been a while.

By far it had the most audience reaction today — people were cracking up, charmed (as they should be) by the humor and sincerity of my grandparents talking about obituaries and designing their own headstone and old Norwegian jokes.

The film makes me incredibly proud of my brother every time I see it and entirely grateful to be a part of my family. I’m so grateful for the legacy my grandparents will leave for us . . . and excited to celebrate their 90th birthdays in the next few weeks!

With Love,
Natalie
