I think I’ll be done with this revision by Labor Day. I’ve clocked in at 72K words tonight, and I’m anticipating ~8-10K more to wrap it up. I’ve been a bit obsessive this month (yes, that’s another ~19K of revision in a week), but I’m having fun with it.
I’m really trying not to rush these final scenes and I’m definitely doing the most additional word count in this part of the book. I spent the last two days working over one particular section again and again until I think it made sense. On the first revision pass, I added a couple of scenes that went too fast so I decided to go back and flesh them out before carrying on.
I hope it works? I’m eager to get it into the hands of beta readers again so I can see if this revision addressed the issues from the zero draft . . . and hopefully didn’t introduce too many new ones!
In the meantime, here are my last sentences written from this past week.
- 8/25: She’s so fucking weird, but I can’t stop smiling as I take over the drive-thru window.
- 8/26: What are you talking about?
- 8/27: Mickey barks.
- 8/28: I have been an idiot this weekend.
- 8/29: I don’t remember when I stop.
- 8/30: I wait until the auditorium door shuts to let out a frustrated scream.
- 8/31: My knees bangs into an ill-placed stone.
With Love,
Natalie
