In the querying world, I had some good news last night with an agent responding to my query to ask for the full manuscript. I currently have three agents looking at the full right now (two asked last month), so we’ll see but at least it’s a sign that my pitch and opening pages are resonating with some people. (On the flip side I queried someone yesterday and got rejected within a few hours so it’s really all over the board).

There doesn’t seem to be any real “timelines” in publishing, though this agent kindly gave an estimate of 8 weeks (I’ve heard it take up to six months or longer sometimes so that actually felt generous). In the grand scheme these little responses aren’t exactly newsworthy but I’m trying to celebrate the small wins along the way.

In the meantime, here are my last sentences written from this past week:

  • 5/12: No watch?
  • 5/13: “Saturday,” I say finally.
  • 5/14: Show me again.
  • 5/15: She’s picking at her hangnail still.
  • 5/16: Yes, it is.
  • 5/17: The pillowcase was too warm, just like the rest of the apartment.
  • 5/18: A clay mug I made in third-grade art with ‘Belch’ painted on in blue shaky letters.

With Love,
