Not much writing progress this week with travel and working extra around the travel (and wow life is just tiring sometimes?), but a lot of mulling over plot ideas. If only thinking about writing was writing?

So here’s a quick update on querying as I ventured into the trenches in the last month.

  • I’ve sent out a total of 11 queries to literary agents (starting on 2/28 through 4/1).
  • I’ve received 1 rejection.
  • I’ve received 1 partial request.
  • I’ve received 2 full requests.
  • 8 queries are still pending response. (Not unusual — responses can take up to three months, if people respond at all.)

For a first round, I think it’s a pretty good hit rate on my query letter at least. I don’t have the full picture since the majority are pending, but with the three requests for more pages, that’s a 27% success rate. Now we’ll just see how the actual manuscript holds up and hopefully get some feedback to go from there.

I have more agents I can query on my list, but I’m planning on keeping ~10 active at a time right now. So as I get another rejection, I’ll send another out. What an awful process. They tell you to work on your next project in the meantime. I’ll get right on that.

With Love,
Natalie
