Writing Update Tuesday!

My trash draft deadline (agreed upon with my friend Lin, who’s also finishing the first draft of a novel) is this Friday, May 10th. An arbitrary deadline, but one I’m trying to take seriously.

Of course, I wish I had taken it seriously in April rather than having to push out 3000 words a day this week. It’s cutting it kind of close. And you should see the trash. Heaps of dialogue with descriptive tags of who is looking where. Fascinating.

I remind myself, patiently, that it’s easier to edit than to create from a blank slate. It’s better to get some words down than nothing at all.

No time to linger though … I have to get back to it. Here are my last sentences written from this past week:

  • 4/30: In two days she’d just be my cat-sitter.
  • 5/1: I was surprised.
  • 5/2: Cat takes that moment to knock the bottle of ginger ale off the counter and then darts to the bedroom as the soda explodes at our feet.
  • 5/3: Yet Nolan said it himself, I don’t stand a chance against Luke if he sees me coming.
  • 5/4: Why do you think they haven’t noticed all the other times?
  • 5/5: He leans forward for another kiss.
  • 5/6: In and out.

With Love,

Natalie
