During my trip to Boston this week I got the chance to talk a little bit about my story . . . one friend read it, one hadn’t had time yet so I couldn’t fully delve into it but the small bits of feedback had me clamoring for more. Another friend who works in the publishing world offered to read it as well so I’ll have four first readers.
It’s only been a week but I can tell I’m not going to need a very long break from this story. I miss it. As much as I want it to feel complete, I’ve fallen so in love with my narrator I wish I could write in his voice forever.
As I (super patiently) wait for feedback, I’m toying around with another project. At this point, it’s more about seeing what comes out on the page and figuring out if this is the right next story to be working on. I honestly have no idea. Here’s a glimpse from the last sentences I wrote each day this past week:
- 9/3: I don’t believe you will.
- 9/4: In the desert, Del likes the thunderstorms best.
- 9/5: The news they gave her from the coasts she got for free.
- 9/6: But she did start packing.
- 9/7: As the sun set, after two weeks, she left.
- 9/8: It would be here soon and this time Nic wouldn’t let it leave, not without taking him too.
- 9/9: A hand grabbed his shoulder from behind.
With Love,
Natalie
