Another week into revising and I’m about 65% through the draft. I’m still puzzle-piecing — having to circle back and smooth out arcs as I go — but I’m making good forward momentum day by day (a little during the week, a lot during the weekends).
I see why some writers use other tools to manage plots and timelines and generally keep track of all these details. I keep fairly organized in Scrivner but I don’t take very organized notes. I do a lot of thinking and remembering and then remembering a lot later. It’s a bit chaotic, but I also think allows for some details to manifest more organically.
I was particularly excited to figure out a new approach to one plot issue over the weekend. I hope it solves a nagging issue since the beginning of this story, but I’ll have to see how it shakes out. Tonight, I’m finding myself getting stuck on the pacing of a scene. I had to add some new content in that I think is emotionally necessary, but it’s interrupted my original flow. I may need to revisit it later and try to rewrite this section from scratch and see if it comes out better. Sometimes looking at the existing words on the page boxes me in during revision and the solution is pulling up a blank screen again.
Tentatively on track to have this done by the end of the year. We’ll see how the upcoming holiday weekends go.
With Love,
Natalie
