Who am I to attend a gala? I’m not sure if I have before, but tonight I went to the annual event for Write On, Door County – the writing non-profit right here in my community. I’m a member and have liberally used the space at the new writing center over the summer, so it felt fitting that I should get my ticket to their gala and help support them.

My parents attended with me and we (eventually) chatted with attendees, partook in the free librations, and had a sit-down dinner under a tent in the writing center parking lot. Clearly, I love being around writers at the moment, and I got someone’s card to connect with for the future. The guest author, Nickolas Butler, was also thoughtful and funny and ended his talk with an essay about lutefisk which was such a perfect call out to my family and American-Norwegian culture.

We also managed to liberate ~10 white cedar tree centerpieces for my dad to plant on our property line.

I’m hoping I can meet more writers, learn from more writers, get involved more in the creative community in Door County and in Wisconsin.

I also really appreciated the *free* wine. It’s been a long week.

With Love,

Natalie
