I went to the Women’s Fund of Door County’s annual luncheon today. They are a granting organization that supports women and girls in the community and has had a huge impact. Their luncheon and the support of so many women in our community was a testament to that.

What attracted me to the luncheon, however, was mainly their keynote speaker: Lachrisa Grandberry. Lachrisa is a performer, playwright, lyricist, composer, and local favorite. She’s a performer with credits in Chicago, Milwaukee, and all around the region and has spent six seasons in Door County at the Nothern Sky Theater. Last year I saw her for the first time in the show she wrote and performed in Sunflowered.

Her keynote was incredibly powerful. She shared a vulnerable and brave story of her upbringing — the tough parts, but also all the women who carried the light and showed her how to carry her own light. It was more than worth the workday interruption to hear her speak and I’m going to continue to keep an eye on her work in the future. You should too.

With Love,
Natalie
