It’s taken me a long time to understand some basic stop-gaps for shame spirals and awful news. I’m still working on it. I had to practice today, so I thought I’d reiterate my short-list for when shit goes down*:

* a mistake, bad luck, an embarrassment, a disappointment, a wave of grief. . .

  1. Tell someone you love (text them, call them, face them)
  2. Move your body (go on a walk, dance in your living room, do a few measly push-ups)
  3. Find perspective (practice gratitude, take some deep breaths, this too shall pass)

It’s not everything, but it’s a pretty big something.

Isolation is an easy crutch, but it will keep you limping forever.

With Love,

Natalie
