To the days that are slow —
Slow-brained, slow-timed
Slow, in all my worst definitions
Of should’ve done more
Could’ve been better
But my head was dunked
In molasses
Despite the running
Despite the trying
Despite everything set up right
For fast-churning utility

To days like today —
I’ll say thank you anyway
Imperfect days
Are also part of
A good life (I know this)
And imperfect days
Are allowed
In someone who is still enough
When she manages her time
Imperfectly (I know this)
But mostly, thank you,
For your passing of time
So that the sun can come up again
One try after another
That is what makes a life

With Love,
Natalie
