The plates are twice the size of my face
Purchased for Thanksgiving feasts
To hold second helpings with the first
Yet I go back for more

I roll my turkey
And mashed potatoes
And stuffing
And corn
And cranberries
All in buttered lefse
Repeat
Wash it down
With red wine
In crystal glasses from Belgium
Try not to think about
What it would mean
To shatter one on the floor

We eat at noon
And walk afterwards
Out of necessity
To digest, to stay awake
To be together as we wonder our woods
And then go say hello to my cats

By most measures
This has been a hard year
But if I measure it in gratitudes
For my family most of all
I’ve won the lottery

Mid-way through the afternoon
And we have euchre ahead
And soaking in the hot tub
And video calls with family
And lighting the fireball
And more of that good wine in fancy glasses

This day isn’t what a lot of people wanted
But I hope everyone is finding connection
And a good meal
That makes them full, and sleep, and grateful
As I am right now

With Love,

Natalie
