On New Year’s Eve, I pulled a tarot spread for the year ahead. I wanted to share it here so I can reflect back on it. The five cards (from right to left) correspond with these five questions (shared in an email from Tarot for the Wild Soul):
- My card for 2023
- The lesson of the year ahead for me
- What am I being invited to offer my attention to in 2023?
- What Anchor Card can I call upon to help support me in this process?
- What might I need to release in order to do this?
The reversed cards right now I choose to interpret as something I might be blocked by, though there is a range of definitions as with all the cards. Here’s a snippet for each card from my “This Might Hurt” tarot deck.
My card for 2023 – Judgement: The Judgement card is an invitation to look objectively back on your life and your choices. Who have you been and who do you want to be? Judgement is a big deal card. It is an opportunity to learn from your past, to answer a calling, to intentionally become something new.
The lesson of the year ahead for me – The Moon: The Moon is also about the unconscious and repressed memory. Think of the phases of the moon. Some part of the moon is always hidden, but as she waxes she reveals more of herself. Not knowing is terrifying, but incredible ideas and insights can come out of this space of darkness and unease. Trust that, over time, more information will be revealed. The sun always rises.
What am I being invited to offer my attention to in 2023? – Eight of Pentacles (“The Apprentice”): In some cases, the Eight of Pentacles simply speaks to the satisfaction of creating something with your hands, and encourages you toward tactile creative pursuits . . . you need to put in the word to hone your skills. While the day-to-day labor or education may get boring it will all be worth it.
What Anchor Card can I call upon to help support me in this process? – Three of Wands (“The Intern”): The Three of Wands is here to tell you that you are on the right track to where you want to be. I think of this card like an intern, working hard toward the career of her dreams. She’s not exactly where she wants to be yet, but she knows she’s on the right path. She looks out at the sea of opportunity from a high vantage point, where she has a good view of upcoming challenges and possibilities.
What might I need to release in order to do this? – Five of Wands (“The Pointless Conflict Card”): The Five of Wands is here to tell us that these conflicts are not worth it, ultimately do not matter, and aren’t doing you any good. Whether this is a conflict with real stakes or a pointless slap fight, it’s annoying and getting in your way. Distance yourself from it or let it go. Choose not to care so much, if you can.
It resonated. Here’s to 2023.
With Love,
Natalie
