I’m still using Goodreads to track, and as of this morning, I’ve completed 92 books this year, 42 of them over the last quarter (March-June).
The Magical Mumbo Jumbo
Do you remember when the book The Secret came out? I was in high school when I remember the craze. Every time I checked the book out of the library for a patron I really just wanted to know what the secret was. One of my friends read it and loved it and tried to explain. But I didn’t get it. It sounded like magical mumbo jumbo and this from the girl who would do nearly anything to believe in magic.
A Feminist Self-Care Book Recommendation
I finished reading Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle by Emily & Amelia Nagoski this week and I can’t seem to shut up […]
Speak Your Body’s Language
Yesterday I began listening to the Burnout: The Secret to Solving the Stress Cycle by Amelia Nagoski and Emily Nagoski. I don’t need to get very far into this book to highly recommend it. Twenty minutes in and I felt like it was changing my life.
50 Books
I’ve read 50 books so far this year. 30 were physical books; 20 I listened to the audio versions. I haven’t read at this pace since high school (though really all I’ve done is replace fanfiction hours with published works). A few books have been bad, most of them average and entertaining, a few amazing.
Bookstore Wonderland
I don’t think I’ve ever walked out of BookPeople without spending $100. It’s one of the reasons I had to reinvest in the wonderful library system. BookPeople is Austin’s independent book store. It’s downtown, next to Whole Foods and REI, and a little bit of a wonderland for book lovers. There’s always signed editions, and irreverent feminist knick knacks, and customized staff recommendations lining all the shelves. Their card collection alone is magnificent, as proved by my mother who spent nearly as much on greeting cards as I did on books. It’s all I can do not to throw handfuls of money at them.
Starting My Queer Young-Adult Happy Endings Book Club
A few months ago I started a book club with my coworker. She had mentioned years ago that she used to belong to a queer […]
This Year I’m Going to Read More and I Fucking Mean It
This year, 2019, I’m going to read more books. I fucking mean it.
