My lungs crave fresh air, my skin needs sun, so I take my body down to the water in the afternoon. A hotspot for my laptop and a sweatshirt to help block wind and I spend a couple of hours content on a picnic table with the waves in my ear. I’m even peaceful enough to ignore the spiderwebs surrounding me. A ladybug crawls on my hand and I think of the tattoo on my wrist: “luck is something you make”.

This is a small act of self-compassion. I stack them as high as I can like bits of golden armor.

My mom and I go to dinner and eat good food outside. Then we find a good sunlit spot to warm the chill out of us for a few minutes before we continue on our way. Earlier she texted me “We can do this!!”. And we can. Or, we have to. Onward.

With Love,

Natalie
