I had a session zero today for a D&D “mini arc” I volunteered to run for some coworkers. In a world where we could gather in-person for a full afternoon of adventuring, it could probably be a one-shot. But we live in the world where we’re going to try to play for an hour each week over a lunch break so “mini arc” felt more realistic since we’ll probably need 4-6 sessions.

Of course, if you’ve played with me before you know I’m a little timeblind when it comes to telling a short story so we’ll see how it goes.

Today we met to chat characters, setting, and talk through a few expectations at the table. I’m nervous to DM for a new group but that’s why I wanted to do it. I need to scratch my D&D itch while I’m building out the world and framework for a longer campaign I’d like to run. And I want to improve as a DM and the best way to do that is by DMing.

Our story starts in the small forest village of Pinestone, in the shadow of a mountain locals call “The Empty Summit” — a place many to be haunted or cursed by a vengefal god. Right now in Pinestone, villagers have been falling ill from a mysterious illness . . .

We start next week so I have some homework to do over the weekend!

With Love,
Natalie
