The facts of our lives
Laid out like a resume
Went here, did this
Shook his hand
Tore her poster off the wall
Heard that song
Called “Autumn and Me”
Forgot that song until I
Moved to a home by the lake
And remember the line
About what happened on the kitchen floor

The mere facts of our lives
But we weave them into stories
We can’t help it
We all love a story
We all need a story
To make sense of it
To make meaning
Out of anything
We can make meaning
Out of understanding the meaninglessness
It’s a circle
End of the story
Beginning of the story
End of the story

Either nothing matters
Or everything does
Two sides of the same coin
It’s a circle

I give advice
To figure out your story
The arrangement of the facts of your life
Into meaning, into identity
Into action and values
Into how you answer interview questions
Into how you show up at a Zoom meeting
Either nothing matters
Or everything does

I’ve been searching for a little more nuance
Turn your cameras off sometimes
There are parts of people I love
That I do not understand
I could try to

With Love,
Natalie
