We have a cycle planned this week of “big excursion day” followed by a rest day. With the cinder cone hike yesterday, today was rest day aka a day where we stay close to our condo and don’t do a lot of running around. It was definitely appreciated after yesterday’s workout.

Today was still active though, starting with a morning run that felt better than I expected after yesterday’s exercise. I then spent the morning reading a book my dad passed on to me: Discipline is Destiny by Ryan Holiday. I’ve read some of Ryan Holiday’s books before and I really appreciated the philosophy today. I also had a chance to do a little D&D prep for a future session before we headed to the beach.

We timed our beach trip with the Superbowl, betting on it being emptier while most people are glued to their TVs. We found a spot no problem, it definitely wasn’t overcrowded, but there was something kind of hopeful about the number of people out and enjoying their day (instead of watching the game). A lot more than I expected.

I read some more at the beach and got in the ocean to say I did, but the wind picked up so we headed back to our home and visited an empty pool and hot tub in our complex before getting cleaned up. A game of cards, an easy dinner, catching up on the latest episode of Abbott Elementary . . . all perfect elements to a relaxing day in Hawai’i.

Tomorrow we’ll be up and moving to head to Volcanoes National Park, a two-hour drive across the island.

With Love,

Natalie
