My trauma-release somatic exercise course was less physical and more mental today. The ‘exercise’ was a journaling exercise to release anger, irritation, and frustration. I listened to bilateral stimulation music and journaled for fifteen minutes based on the prompt to ‘rage on paper’.

To my surprise, it took about five seconds before I was crying and I cried through a litany of rage as I filled up four scribbled pages.

Next, the course had a video where we held a pillow over our heads and slammed it into the floor. Again and again. It felt awesome.

The physical movement of throwing a pillow on the ground felt like everything I journaled was moving through my body and out of my body. Not for good, I’m sure, but it was clearly a release I needed.

Today was Day 23 of the 30-day course. I’m impressed I’ve been able to stay on track without missing a day so far. One more week to go.

With Love,
Natalie
