I had the opportunity to speak at a virtual event for the University of Texas today: Queer Careers.
The event description: “Learn from LGBTQIA+ professionals, get career guidance, and meet your potential next employer at Queer Careers! This collaborative event will include an opening and closing keynote, two panels with LGBTQIA+ professionals and UT alumni, and office hours for students to schedule one-on-one sessions with employers.”
I got invited to do a brief (~10 minutes) keynote highlighting one of Give Back partnerships with Maven Youth — a great organization that, among many things, puts on tech summer camps for queer teens to introduce them to the tech space. Then, I spent time with current students and alums in small breakout groups to answer questions about my own career, CareerPlug, and general career advice.
I had a very packed day today and energy was in short supply, but stuff like this is energizing to me and a good reminder to get outside of the routine and give back when you can.
Though now I’m very grateful for the weekend.
With Love,
Natalie
