For my Bridgerton fans, I watched the new show Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story over the last few days (it premiered on Netflix on Thursday). If you don’t know what I’m talking about, here’s the trailer.

It was a great distraction. The show is very much in the tone of the main Bridgerton seasons, but a twinge darker in a few respects- — from the origins of Lady Danbury, the start of an integrated society, and the mental health struggles of the young king. It was a beautiful love story that takes place in the past and present (when Queen Charlotte was young and first became Queen and in the ‘present’ of the Bridgerton timeline).

I was fully crying in the show’s last moments so it definitely struck a chord.

There was also an actual queer love story as one of the subplots, something Bridgerton has failed to deliver thus far. More of that, please.

Worth the watch if you’ve seen the other Bridgerton seasons — there are some callbacks and it’s helpful to have context for the world and characters. All in all, I’d still order season two of Bridgerton as my favorite so far, then Queen Charlotte, then season one.

With Love,
Natalie
