There is nothing like hearing the waves, seeing the sunlight stream through the clouds, and feeling the warm lake wind on my skin that brings me to a state of peace.
I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it forever: when there’s anxiety or sadness or restlessness or you’ve feel like you’ve lost your center, get yourself to the water. Wide-open spaces, wide-open lakes . . . we are a blip in time, on the earth, and this truth lifts all those external to-dos (that seem so important) away, leaving what matters behind. Family, friendships, love, nature, peace in your bones.
I love hearing my dad tell the stories of the rocks along the shoreline. Then there’s the strong smell of the old books on the kitchen table mixed with the scent of brussel sprouts in the oven. My friends and I drink old fashioneds made with brandy and real maple syrup and listen to my parents name the birds outside the window. A warbler crashes into the glass, drops to the ground, and my dad brings him to safe place to recover until he flies away.
There are inevitable complexities of living and building a good, morale, and true life, but sometimes it’s easy. Sometimes you can listen to the water, take a deep breath, and know you are where you are meant to be.
With Love,
Natalie
