Over the Garden Wall is a mini-series created by Cartoon Network that is a perfect Halloween season watch. Released in 2014, the series is only ten episodes and each episode is about 12 minutes in length. Meaning it’s basically like sitting down and watching a movie, which I did tonight with my mom.
It’s a hard show to describe — it’s quirky, funny, and spooky — but not scary. One of the official descriptions reads: “On an adventure, brothers Wirt and Greg get lost in the Unknown, a strange forest adrift in time; as they attempt to find a way out of the Unknown, they cross paths with a mysterious old woodsman and a bluebird named Beatrice.”
As a bonus: Wirt, one of the main characters, is voiced by Elijah Wood.
It’s one of those stories with odd twists and delightful turns and firmly rooted in Halloween. The first time I watched it, a few years ago at my brother’s urging, I had no idea what was going on at first. But the mystery comes together so neatly in a short amount of time. Plus, I laugh out loud every episode.
So if you need a Halloween watch this weekend, I recommend Over the Garden Wall. Available on Hulu.
With Love,
Natalie
