Nesting — the urge to clean and organize to prepare for a newborn.
I did some nesting today, with the generous help of my mom who has an eye for space and organization that I sometimes lack. We cleared closet spaces, piled up things to be thrown out, and moved things around which resulted in a lot more shelving space. I’m going to need it.
After my mom left I continued the process by going through all my clothes and filling up four 13-gallon trash bags with items to be donated to Goodwill. Nothing like the possibility of parenthood to put in perspective why you’re keeping that shirt you haven’t worn in two years. We had moved some books for storage off my bookshelf and I pulled a few others off to donate (something I’ve always been so hesitant to do, I love hoarding books. But I’m not sure why I’m keeping books I don’t like).
After a rearrangement and a dusting, my bookshelf is full again — all those empty spaces only made room for the books that were stacked around the room.
There is a lot more to do to prepare. More closet space to go through. Drawers. The kitchen. The storage closet outside. Then painting. Finding a couple of new furniture items (like lamps that aren’t so heavy that they’ll crush you if they topple over — not exactly babyproof).
It’s fulfilling, if not a little exhausting. But after two and a half years in this space it’s time for an upgrade on how I utilize my storage space — but doing it for a future baby gives me more motivation and purpose.
With Love,
Natalie
