I finished listening to the first campaign of Not Another D&D Podcast (Naddpod) today — an actual-play D&D podcast hosted by Brian Murphy, Emily Axford, Jake Hurwitz, and Caldwell Tanner. The first campaign is in 100 episodes — each about 1.5 – 2 hours, so this feels like a big accomplishment.
And wow it was so, so good. I’ve really enjoyed the Dimension 20 shows, but there’s a different element to D&D actual play that is just audio and has more permission to take its time. Instead of 18-20 episodes, a full 100 to tell a story. They took the characters from level 1 to 20, the highest level. It’s masterful DM’ing, storytelling, and improv.
Yes, I am aware this is a very niche D&D post.
But seeing characters operate at level 20 in a world-shifting battle that 100 episodes led up to . . . it’s some epic battle anime-style shit that is so, so satisfying. Watching some do over 250 points of damage in one turn. Wow.
I cried during the final episode — as I did at a couple of points during the campaign. But this is mostly a comedy podcast so I laughed so, so much (when comedy can get serious when it needs to, that is magic).
For anyone who’s looking for a D&D podcast, I can’t recommend it enough. Of course, I am behind the times. They’ve already done more campaigns so I’ll be consuming those in the future.
And yes I will be accepting this Jamboreen sweatshirt as a gift.
With Love,
Natalie
