I need to document somewhere how deeply in love I fell with My Hero Academia. So excuse this.

My Hero Academia is an anime set in a world where the majority of the population has evolved some kind of “quirk” . . . aka power or mutation. It leads a world of superheroes and supervillains and just a lot of other ordinary people in between. Our protagonist Izuku Miydoria (“Deku”) was born without a quirk but wants desperately to a hero. There’s a hero school and everything that he’s applied to.

I watched the 100 episodes that were out in under two weeks and no I did not sleep very much.

Team . . . it is just so good. It has everything I like in stories: hero’s journeys, underdog stories, school class/team as a family trope, childhood friends to enemies to rivals (to lovers, clearly, but we’ll wait on that canon), kidnapping, superpowers, boarding school shenanigans, a dude who has both flame and ice powers, episodes long fight scenes, lots of feelings…

I’m caught up on the anime now and have to do that painful week to week wait of episode releases . . . we have seasons yet to go. So I did the only rational thing and bought the first 15 volumes of manga yesterday. I’ll read those and then the 15 volumes after that to get caught up and well ahead of the anime story. I want to live in this world.

Anyway, if you are type of person who can be persuaded to watch anime this comes with my high recommendations.

With Love,
Natalie
