I have a tradition on Taylor Swift’s album release days. I go for a run, not letting myself start the album until I’m out the door, and let the new songs wash over me. I’ve been doing this since Lover came out in 2019 and I made no exception today — even though I haven’t been in the routine of running early.

There’s something about being outside and hearing the lyrics for the first time . . . it hits differently. I remember when I first heard Evermore I swore out loud multiple times during my five-mile loop.

No swearing this morning, but I’m so rarely excited about music that it’s fun to lean into the hype of Midnights. And some of the songs really hit. I’m excited to keep listening . . . on repeat . . . for the next month . . . and forever because who do I really listen to besides Taylor Swift?

With Love,
Natalie
