Yes, two days of book recommendations in a row because I absolutely devoured May the Best Man Win by Z.R. Ellor over the last two days.

I preordered it a few months ago for the premise: Jeremy comes out as transgender before his senior year of high school and decides to run for Homecoming King against his all-star ex-boyfriend, Lukas.

It’s lovers to enemies to *maybe lovers again*. I expected some fluff and good trans representation, but I got a lot more out of it than that. I was literally sending a picture of a passage to my friends just a few chapters in and the wonder of it stayed with me throughout. I can’t find a more eloquent way to put it right now other than this book gave me a lot of feelings.

From a technical standpoint: the writing was great, the plot was well-paced, and I easily fell in love with the characters. In a story that could’ve leaned into more fluff, it struck a deeper chord early on and didn’t let me go. I could not stop reading it.

This morning I made a list of queer book recommendations to supplement a company email (in honor of Pride month), and I was amazed and how hard it was to narrow it down even across YA, Adult, Fiction, and Nonfiction. I literally can’t keep up with all the great queer books out there.

But I am very grateful this one fell into my life.

With Love,

Natalie
