Back home after an exciting 24 hours in Madison welcoming my nephew, Kai. I got to hold him in my arms this morning. He is . . . so tiny. Six pounds, which I guess is normal but my cats are three times that size.
Kai’s name has multiple layers and meanings. One is that it’s inspired by my sister-in-law’s maiden name, Kaiser. It’s also a name that shows up in a lot of cultures, including Scandinavian and Welsh (which is my family’s heritage). From that point of origin, the name can mean “Keeper of the Keys” or “Earth” (according to Google, lol).
This morning we took pictures on our phones and with my Polaroid and my mom and I passed Kai back and forth until I had to leave. I had to drive home and also give my dad a chance to meet his grandson (only two visitors at a time in the hospital).
I am so excited to be an aunt. I only wish I was closer so I could dote on him daily, but I’ll be back in the area in a couple of weeks for my grandparents’ 90th birthday celebration.
That kid and me are going to have so much fun.
With Love,
Natalie
You look so happy to hold Kai
