I’ve mentioned this book a couple of times over the last week, but team this deserves its own post. I finished listening to How to Be Perfect: The Correct Answer To Every Moral Question by Michael Schur last night. Michael Schur was a writer on The Office, co-created Parks & Recreation, co-created Brooklyn 99, and created The Good Place. Just to name a few impressive things and give you a sense of how good and funny the writing is in this book.

As you might guess if you’re a fan of The Good Place this book stemmed from a lot of research and writing of the show and he ropes in the cast members to read parts of the audiobook which is good fun.

The book is such an accessible, entertaining overview of moral philosophy. It’s firmly grounded in a modern context . . . addressing questions from “Do I Have to Return My Shopping Cart to the Shopping Cart Rack Thingy?” to “What do we do when we love a thing but the creator is problematic?”

But the fundamental question of the book is the same one explored in the show — how do we be good to each other?

The most important part of becoming better people, I’ll say yet again, is that we care about whether what we do is good or bad, and therefore try to do the right thing

I found this book thoughtful, optimistic, relevant . . . and also funny and entertaining and I want to read it again and let it marinate. You should read it too. And really, the audiobook is very good.

With Love,

Natalie
