I took another shot at running a game of Werewolves for our company’s virtual holiday party today. Holiday Werewolves. You know, with the same terror and deception and bloodshed but it’s also kind of festive and Christmasy.

To prepare, I created a playlist of creepy Christmas music which is a genre that exists. I included music like this dark version of Jingle Bells to play while the werewolves attacked at night.

I had a great group this time — thirteen players plus me which meant we could have three werewolves, a witch, a seer, and a hunter in the game along with the villagers. We played two games — the first one lasting about an hour as people had a great time arguing and deceiving — the werewolves won that round. The second game was full of drama, despite being a speed run. The hunter was taken out the first night and took out a Werewolf, completely by chance, with his final vengeful blow.

In the end, it came down to three players, one of them a werewolf, and a final night the witch had to either choose to heal themselves or another player, not knowing who the final werewolf would choose. If the witch chose wrong and protected the person who wasn’t attacked, the werewolves would win the game.

They chose right. They protected the other player, the mayor, and won the game for the villagers. It was awesome. And cathartic and funny after an otherwise heavy workday.

I wish everyone some time to play Werewolves.

With Love,
Natalie
