Admittedly, February is a tough month to be stuck in winter. Below zero temperatures. More snow. Spring still a couple of months off. This is why we’ve started making a habit of going to Hawaii in February to get away. My parents had planned to be there for three weeks this month.

With the pandemic and eliminating unnecessary travel, we are without our Hawaiin trip this year. So we tried to make do with our own version of a Door County Hawaiian night last night.

Elements of our Hawaiian Night:

  • Wear our Hawaiian clothes
  • Turn the heat up just a little
  • Play Hawaiian music
  • Go in the hot tub
  • Make/eat homemade Hawaiian pizza
  • Drink Hawaiian Beer (Kona Brewing Company)
  • Watch Moana

All of this makes for a special and relatively easy themed night to break up the winter routine. Plus, my folks booked their vacation (our vacation, I’m definitely going) for next February that morning. We’re going to the big island this time (instead of Maui which we’ve visited twice in the past) and have something to look forward to . . . even if it’s a full year out.

It’s fun and simple to create an event that is out of the ordinary . . . a little music, special food, and dress up and you have an event. Even with just three people in the middle of winter.

With Love,
