I took a half day at work to spend time with my friends this afternoon. Working from their place for the week is nice, but it does mean there is a lot of time spent working so it’s good to carve out some intentional time to spend together besides a couple of hours in the evening.

After my morning meetings, we went to brunch for lunch at The Breakfast Club where I had an awesome hash. Afterward, we walked around the East Village (braving a light rain) and checked out Raygun. So many clever T-shirts and knick-knacks that are hard to resist. I’ve acquired nine new stickers on this Iowa trip so far; I’m going to have to get another Yeti.

The bulk of the afternoon we spent at Peace Tree Brewing. We arrived right when they opened and were the only patrons for the three hours we were there — benefits of cutting out of work on a rainy Thursday afternoon. They had very cool and on-brand tree trunk flight boards and it was a cool quiet place to hang out and chat. The beer was pretty good too! They had this new lemon-lime sour that was surprisingly awesome.

It’s a little weird having to work tomorrow after a mid-week half day, but at least it’s Friday (we took off time today since our collective work schedules didn’t allow time off tomorrow). I’m grateful to have had the extra time to explore a few new places in Des Moines! The restaurant we checked out last night, Bubba, was awesome as well. Made for awesome leftovers this evening.

With Love,

Natalie
