I went out to dinner with my mom, aunt, and cousin tonight — an “adult” dinner while my kid cousins were with their parents. We ended up, by accident, at a place we’d never been before in Fish Creek: Gusto.

The accident was that were planning to go to Skaliwags, open daily, but when we walked up they were closed. Their chalkboard sign out front had a partial menu and their hours with parentheses that said: “hours subject to change without notice”. So they did warn us, I suppose.

Gusto was good, in a way that surprised all of our expectations. I have some cheese ravioli and red wine and when the table next to us left they stopped to tell us we had to get the chocolate mouse because it was life-changing (as if my mom hadn’t been eyeing it earlier when they brought it out). So we got the chocolate mouse between the four of us (or the flourless chocolate cake, as the restaurant called it. It was pretty heavenly.

And now I get to enjoy the post-dinner two glasses of wine feeling on a Tuesday summer evening. As I told my mom tonight, you could die tomorrow, so why not have the cake?

With Love,

Natalie
