I’m driving around Wisconsin this weekend, starting early this morning to drive to Stoughton, WI — my original hometown and the forever home of my grandparents (Nana & Bumpa). They celebrated their 90th birthdays together today!
90 is a milestone worth celebrating. I remember their 80th birthday party a decade ago and, with any luck, we can celebrate their 100th in another ten. Regardless, 90 years of two kind, funny, generous humans on this earth is a gift. I am so proud to be part of their family.
After the party, I drove to Madison and got to see my nephew, Kai, again! He’ll be three weeks old on Monday and he is still so tiny (still below 7 pounds). But he is strong, big-eyed, and expressive. I held him in my lap for a while to get some close-up face-to-face time.
We took Kai to dinner with us at Hodge Podge — a local coffee and cocktail bar that lets you bring in outside food. He mostly slept but I got to hold him again at the end and my brother let me watch him change Kai’s diaper so I’m prepared to do it in the future. For all that past baby research, I never have changed a diaper before in real life.
I’m sure the next time I see Kai (tbd) he’ll already be so much bigger. He really is so very small. I love him so much.
With Love,
Natalie
