Waking up too soon
In the hours when my eyes won’t stay open
But my mind won’t stay still

The fatigue follows me
Pricks at the corners of my eyes
Like I’ll cry if you nick me, just see

I think the name in my head
And go out into the sun
It’s slow and hard but I run

I am the firefighter
Who needs to dampen new kindling
With smoke still in her lungs

Look up river
There’s something I can’t see
When I’m focused right in front of me

I’m giving up too soon
But my eyes won’t stay open

With Love,
Natalie
