It’s not supposed to be easy.
That’s what I remind myself. And the managers I coach. When we make decisions about the people we employ, it’s not supposed to be easy. When we impact someone’s job we impact someone’s life. So it’s not supposed to be easy to have hard conversations and make hard decisions. We should shoulder every brick of that weight. That’s what responsibility looks like. Examing our decisions. Triple checking our reasons. Exploring all roads until we ultimately make the best decision with the information we have.
But oh is it not easy. I see why some people close off their hearts. I see why some people treat people like numbers instead of souls. It would be easier. But it wouldn’t be right.
