I know I’ll keep unearthing new things about Door County that I never would have found in my week at a time visits in the past. My parents found this one: the trails of the Door County Land Trust. Public land and trails preserved by the trust because of their ecological or scenic value all over the peninsula that’d I never even heard of growing up.

My folks have been to most of them in the last year, most of the trails are short 1-2 mile hikes, and I visited my second one with them for a morning hike today: the Ephraim Preserve at Anderson Pond.

The county is full of people right now. It’s the height of summer, a weekend, and everyone seems to be up here trying to escape the cities. But we were the only ones on the trail for the hour we walked it, just after a morning rainfall. There are so many privates oases up here.

Tall cedar trees over hundreds of years old. The log remnants from a cabin in the 1800s. The sounds of water sliding through the leaves above.

I’m sure I’ll tour more of these trails soon and I know they are just one of many hidden gems just a hop and a skip away from my new home.

With Love,

Natalie
