After a three-week break, we were back at Dungeons & Dragons tonight. Running the game continues to take practice (and a lot of prep) so I’m grateful to have a group where we can be consistent and learn together.

And it can really make me laugh . . . all the choices players make that I don’t anticipate. Tonight we also had some combat (on a dark beach in the middle of the night) which was fun because I got to use my wet-erase mat for myself to draw a map and move figurines around — my players had to rely on me to describe the setup but it was much easier for me to keep track of everyone.

Also, I sent out this meme to my players in our session reminder and it felt particularly relevant tonight (sorry, may only make sense to D&D players):

Between this campaign and how much space my brain has been spending on writing research and plotting, I’m feeling more in touch with my creativity than I have in a while. To make up for the three-week break we’re playing again next week . . . and my players are finally on some kind of boat! This is a very big deal.

With Love,
