Three shirts and
Three hairstyles in a day
One pair of yoga pants
Worn five times in a row
With Costco slipper socks
And red lipstick

Alexa, play country music
Alexa, play happy music
Alexa, play chill music
Alexa, shuffle Taylor Swift
Alexa, shuffle Taylor Swift country

The office is crowded
A cat on the table
A cat on my lap
Business Bear in the chair
A heat pack on my stomach
Because I can
And do
Microwaved for 55 seconds
Twenty times a day

Chapstick, the regular kind
Chapstick, the prescribed kind
And vaseline, for daywear
Over my red lipstick

Seven stickers on my red Yeti

I Voted
A bisexual D&D die (both. both is good.)
Love written on a rainbow
Spider-Man
A pig with an eye-patch
And an eighth if you count
My lipstick staining the rim

I have never run a dishwasher
This much in my adult life
A by-product of using all those plates
Instead of take-out containers
I used to hate the noise it made
Now it’s familiar, comforting
Like how I used to never hear my neighbors
And now they blast music on Saturday evenings
I don’t hate it

On my wall there’s a picture I bought in college
Printed on a dictionary page, framed,
with a green block letter quote:
If nothing ever changed
There’d be no butterflies

I am not a butterfly girl
But I appreciate the metaphor
Maybe we’re all just in a chrysalis
I wonder who we’ll be
When we can break it open

With Love,

Natalie
