I finished reading Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas this morning. It’s an amazing read that’s a perfect book to finish today as it takes place during Dio de Muertos.
Here’s the Goodreads tagline: A trans boy determined to prove his gender to his traditional Latinx family summons a ghost who refuses to leave.
So I know you already want to read it based on that, but here are a few other reasons:
- A+ queer rep
- Queer, trans, Latinx protagonist written by a queer, trans, Latinx author
- Dio de Muertos
- Ghosts!
- Ghosts you summon and can’t get rid of and then catch feelings for?!?!
- Real commentary about the treatment of people of color and undocumented people by systems that are supposed to help people (aka the police)
- The writing is top-notch
- All the characters get a lot of depth, even the ones who don’t appear often
- Look at this gorgeous cover art
- Bad boy ghost with a heart of gold who’s also gay
- IT’S GAY AND THERE ARE GHOSTS
- It has a happy ending
Okay, but really, I loved this book. It came out in September this year and is one of those bright spot books of 2020. Highly recommend.
With Love,
Natalie
