We build a moat from a dripping sandcastle
All the way to the lake
Buckets and buckets of water to test the path
Then dig holes, deeper, enough for three
Buckets and buckets of water to fill them up
Pouring until my muscles are sore
But it’s good to be in the sun
It’s good to be with kids
Who make up their own rules
And want you to be a part of the game
It’s good to be on a beach
Where I once formed my own sandcastle
Three generations in one place
And still, there’s the sand, the lake, the August heat
With Love,
Natalie
