I finished my “real first draft” of my last night! Uffda. With a glass of wine and some motivation to free up my weekend, I powered through the last two scenes and clocked in at 81,600 words. This morning I did a last reread of those final scenes and then sent it off to my next round of beta readers.
It’s been a wild five weeks of rewriting and revising this draft. One day I’m having the time of my life and loving what I’m writing. The next day I’m having major imposter syndrome. I hope the manuscript is in better shape than my zero draft — I hope I solved some of the issues — but we’ll see. I’m sure I have more revising in my future but I’m looking forward to a little time to step back.
I am planning to apply to the Pitch Wars mentorship program at the end of this month — it’d be great to get paired, but no matter what it’s a great exercise in preparing a query and synopsis while I wait for feedback.
I have been spending so much time writing this summer I feel I have to raise my head up and look around at the rest of my life. The season’s changing and I’m ready to roll into some new routines.
With Love,
Natalie
