Day one in Austin, here until Thursday. I’m staying at a very Austin-vibe hotel — quirky, weird, nice. I went for a walk this morning and immediately drenched my clothes with sweat. Late September here still means over ninety degrees. I finished Miraculous Ladybug in my hotel room first, though — thanks to an HDMI cord I could view it on the hotel TV. I had a lot of feelings about it. I looked into tattoos.
This afternoon, however, was devoted to friends. We met up at Austin Beerworks. Talked about shows and books and D&D and I hug out with my friends’ adorable 7-month-old baby who was so good for the hour and a half he spent with us.
Then it was more friends on South Congress to get “frose” (frozen rose) at the Hotel San Hose. Another great vibe and good conversation, followed by dinner at June’s All Day where I had a truly delectable chicken sandwich and split a bottle of very nice wine.
By the time I was back in my room, ten o’clock, I’d been out for over eight hours and feeling full of food, wine, and friends. And ready to wind down in the king bed. I love a king bed. It’s my favorite part about hotel rooms. Home upgrade pending.
I love this city. I know why I moved and I wouldn’t change a thing about where I lived, but it’s fun to be back among old friends and good food. God, Austin has such good food. There were breakfast tacos this morning too. Hashbrowns and egg and cheese . . . I’ll always miss that.
I’m winging it tomorrow — probably a more low-key day before a week of work meetings starts on Monday.
With Love,
Natalie
