I attended Door Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” production this evening at their beautiful outdoor venue. After seeing two shows there last year I definitely wanted to make it back this summer and half the reason was for the picturesque location. Right on the shores of Lake Michigan with a stage built around a beautiful old Maple tree.

I can’t recall if I’ve read “As You Like It” or seen in performed before. I don’t believe so (I”m probably thinking of “Twelfth Night”), but some of Shakespeare’s comedies have an air of familiarity- the cross-dressing, the escaping into nature, the double, triple, or quadruple weddings that set the final scenes.

This play has some famous lines, though, including: “All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players”.

I like watching Shakespeare’s plays though admittedly I wouldn’t see them all the time. There is a level of attention and engagement I need to have to keep up with the dialogue. I much prefer seeing Shakespeare rather than reading it, however. The humor completely comes to life.

After the play, my mom and I went to Hill Street in Fish Creek for a beer and smash burgers (and puppy chow!). A show and dinner — a real night out.

With Love,
