President Kennedy challenged the nation to land astronauts on the moon by the end of the decade. Now it’s up to you to walk in the footsteps of NASA’s pioneers and embark on the missions that made history… FOR ALL MANKIND

My family tried out a new board game today, Apollo, which is nearly out-of-character for us as a unit. We’ve done our fair share of Monopoly when I was growing up and play Euchre (card game) on vacations and holidays, but it always takes a bit of pulling to get the whole family to sit down and play a game together.

This one came from an unlikely source: my dad. Who is always very good at any game we play (and has some truly inexplicable wins under his belt) despite being the more resistant in the first place. But while at Target this week he picked out Apollo, a collaborate board game about the NASA moon missions.

And who doesn’t like space?

He even sent us all (me, my mom, and my brother and sister-in-law who are up for the week — they already had Covid so we are not adding any risk with their stay alone) a Youtube video on how to play the game. It’s a strategy game and a little complicated upon first play so we all watched it and I found myself reading through the rulebook twice before we started to try and help shepherd the first play.

We played, we mostly figured it out, and ended up completing the beginning Gemini mission twice orbiting the earth. We’re planning to play again tomorrow evening since we’re all feeling motivated to learn the game while it’s fresh.

All in all, a board game Sunday afternoon was an appropriate introduction to Thanksgiving week. And it was fun to play a board game in person again!

With Love,
