On the third day of 2024, I played D&D. The mythology campaign, where I’m a player (not the DM). I really do love it. It’s fun to solve problems, be a little chaotic, and then have that chaos come back in real stakes.

Tonight’s game, in summary:

  • Dungeon crawling. A room full of snakes. We get halfway through building a zipline before we realize the fire from our torches will do in clearing the way.
  • Another room, the floor collapses and we see a Chimera beneath. I jump across a chasm and we open another door with a candlestick.
  • The god of death’s black mask, when I grab it it blinds me and then gives me terrors of my worst grief. It’s awesome.
  • Outside, we get into an ill-advised fight after I throw an impulsive dart. We nearly all die. Divine intervention ensues.
  • The sheep we dyed pink is with us in a Baby Bjorn the whole time.

See this game is awesome and fun and cathodic as fuck.

Also, my friends are awesome and sent a bunch of D&D-related gifts, including a whole bunch of stickers. This one is my favorite.

It’s also as good of time as ever to remind people that Fantasy High season 3, Junior Year, premiers this month. A good time to catch up on the first two seasons (the first season is free on YouTube).

In part of my journaling for the new year, I wrote “write, play, move — that’s enough.” This is the play part — I want to play more games, have more fun, and find more opportunities to laugh.

With Love,

Natalie
