Like many people, I have a host of nostalgic holiday movie-watching memories. We did most of the classics growing up with Rudolf being the most rewatched in my memory. Santa Claus Is Coming To Town and The Grinch also stand out. As my brother and I got older, I bullied my family into a streak of watching Love, Actually each year . . . though now it’s probably been four or more years since I’ve seen it.
My favorite classic is Home Alone and my mom asked to watch it tonight after we wound down from our day out (and seeing Cats . . . so bizarre). Home Alone is a fun movie that continues to hold up. It is also strangely dark if you look at through the lens of two adults basically trying to attack at eight-year-old . . . or an eight-year-old trying to straight-up murder two burglars . . . I love it.
With a quiet Christmas season pretty far away from the normal traditions I grew up with (and my sparsely decorated apartment), it’s nice to find these small things that bring me into the festive spirit: a holiday party with friends, a Christmas movie, lefse in the fridge . . .
I’m going to keep looking for and leaning into those holiday moments in the next few days while enjoying time spent with my mom.
I hope everyone is finding their own bit of nostalgia this week.
With Love,
Natalie
